Letter Spacing is Broken and There’s Nothing We Can Do About It… Maybe

Emilio Cobos, a senior developer at Mozilla and member of the CSSWG, discussed the inaccuracy of the letter-spacing property rendering in browsers. He explained that current browsers do not follow the CSS specification for this property, which leads to inconsistencies and issues in page layouts, particularly with right-to-left languages and centered texts. As solutions, Cobos proposed a rework of the space around characters and the provision for developers to choose where the ending space is, though any changes carry risks of breaking existing website designs.
