Startup Snaplet, known for its sophisticated developer tools, is shutting down and open-sourcing three flagship tools under an MIT license. Founder Peter Pistorius cited his belief in developers having access to production-like data as his motivation. The three tools include Copycat, a fake data generator, Seed, a tool for generating synthetic data based on a database schema, and Snapshot, for capturing and restoring snapshots of your database. Some former members of Snaplet have joined database company Supabase, which plans to migrate the tools under its banner, picking up ongoing maintenance, while keeping them available for independent use. Pistorius is currently working on React Server Components at RedwoodJS, which he co-founded before Snaplet.
