In his commentary, vitaly Friedman discusses the rising trend of login forms being split across multiple screens, primarily due to single sign-on (SSO) authentication used by large companies. However, this new trend has proven problematic as it tends to break autofill and password managers, and is an inconvenience for users who prefer faster login via username and password. A proposed solution is a single-page look-up with email and password input fields as default, detecting SSO if it is enabled for that email. Friedman emphasizes the importance of testing the login flow with the tools customers would use, to minimize the chances of a broken or inconvenient user experience.
